My challenges and fund raising activities for the year

Like Chris, I am usually busy with various running events throughout the year but this year I have decided to stretch myself a little by attempting to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats, some 950 miles.  However, whilst cycling is not my main activity, we are fully supporting Chris's ride from London to Paris in aid of Kidney Research UK and ask you to donate as much as you can to this worthy cause.

The activities and challenges I am undertaking this year are as follows:

4th-5th May 2010    Coast to Coast Cycle ride 140 miles
A friend and I decided to cycle the C2C bike ride from Workington to Tynemouth as preparation for our Lands End to John O'Groats cycle ride in July. The route takes in some stiff hills in the Lakes as well as the tough climb over the Pennines, but the scenery and sunny weather certainly made up for it.

17th - 21st May 2010   Cape Wrath Challenge
This is a week long running event that involves 5 races over various distances and terrain in the north west corner of Scotland. See www.capewrathchallenge.co.uk
It's a tough event but well worth it for the friendly local community who organise all sorts of social events such as a Quiz Night, Scottish Country dancing, a Ceiledh and a Beach BBQ. And you are surrounded by stunning mountains and empty white sandy beaches.

2nd-13th July 2010  Lands End to John O'Groats cycle ride (LEJOG)
My cycling friend and I decided to do LEJOG in memory of a dear running friend who succumbed to cancer earlier this year. It will be a journey into the unknown as we plan to do the first half unsupported, sleeping wherever we reach each day - in a tent or hostel or B&B. From Liverpool we will have the support of another friend who will carry our cycle panniers in his car. We are raising money for St John's Hospice in Moggerhanger (Sue Ryder Care) and Macmillan Cancer Support, both of whom cared wonderfully for our friend in his final months. If you would like to donate to these charities (we are splitting the money raised 50/50) please go to:

The Annual Fairy run
Each year Biggleswade Athletic Club (I am currently chairman) stage the famous annual FAIRY RUN. This is a semi-serious handicap race where all runners dress up as FAIRIES. See the following link for details and pictures.
